When people ask you what you do, what do you tell them?

I am an entrepreneur and a brand manager.

What does financial wealth mean to you?

Financial wealth to me means being able to spend money without thinking about it, for instance, if  I feel like going on a vacation I can easily book a ticket without stress. So I’d be financially free when my investments can conveniently fund my lifestyle without having to work.

When did you start investing?

As far back as 2014. I started with mutual funds with StanbicIBTC and ARM. Interestingly, I pulled out my investments last year when I noticed my yields kept decreasing every quarter, so I decided to take risks with Rise, a move I have not regretted since I made it.

How did you hear about Rise?

I heard about Rise from my husband early last year. I downloaded the app but I didn’t start investing until September 2020 to be precise.

So why Rise?

Their mission was clear, it stated ‘Dollar-denominated investments’. When I began my journey with Rise, I was in a bad place financially, broke, no savings, no investments. Then it occurred to me that the only way out was to at least have some dollars invested somewhere plus all I needed to start my journey to financial freedom was less than 5,000NGN as of then.

What pushed you to make that decision?

Firstly, I had to be honest with myself, especially with my definition of what financial wealth means to me and where I was. I realised I was not anywhere close. Secondly, I had to discipline myself to take budgeting, saving and investing seriously. I am still on that journey as I am yet to attain financial freedom, but what was important to me then, was to start and strive towards being consistent.

What is your experience with Risevest so far?

It has been a year plus with Rise and I must say a very beautiful one. It is my first time having investments in foreign currency so it is sweeting me.

Tell me about your experience with the Rise Investment Group.

I love the telegram group, I practically visit it every day. I love the fact that the CEO of Rise is also there and he is responsive. What I enjoy the most is the financial literacy I am exposed to on a daily basis.

How do you approach investment today?

With caution I would say, I wouldn’t classify myself as an aggressive investor. My portfolio on Rise is just real estate and fixed income and that’s because I don’t like losing money. However, I am looking forward to buying stocks.

What is the investing hill you’re willing to die on?

If it looks too good to be true then I am not doing it. Also, if you don’t understand it then don’t invest in it. Personally, I am not all about putting my hands into too many investment platforms and I am definitely not interested in high yield investments.

Since you started investing, what has been your biggest gain?

In my first investment with Rise, the exchange rate was at 445 to a dollar, today it is at 540. For me, that’s huge, especially since I am not after high yields in a short period.

Have you made any losses since you started investing?

Definitely not with Rise but on my investment journey, yes I have. I used to trade forex before and practically got my fingers burnt. I also feel I lost money in the mutual funds as naira kept depreciating.

What did you learn from that experience?

Firstly, one major lesson, don’t invest in what you don’t understand. Secondly, the higher the returns, the higher the risk. Thirdly, diversify your investment, low, medium and high risk. Lastly, don’t put all your eggs in one basket.

How do you feel about your investment position today?

Honestly, I am nowhere close to the goal. However, I am happy that Rise exists even though I wish I started earlier with them.

What is your dream investment?

I would love to be a shareholder in companies like Apple, Canva, Netflix. I mean it is definitely not a bad idea.

What are you doing to make that dream a reality?

Like I said earlier on, I am looking forward to investing in the stocks portfolio on Rise.

What will you tell a beginner about investment?

Do your research. Don’t be in a hurry to make money fast. Give yourself time and allow your investments to grow at a steady pace.

On a scale of 1 to 5, how likely are you going to recommend Risevest to new users?

Are you tripping? Are you really asking? Well, it is definitely a 5 for me, please convert all your space naira to dollars, create an account this very moment and use my referral code PL61NS7G apart from investing, join the telegram group and be financially literate.

Thank you very much for speaking with us and keep spreading the word…

My pleasure!
